There are two congregation from which the Bible Baptist Church traces its history. These two churches were the Grace Baptist Church and the Druid City Baptist Church.
The Grace Baptist Church began in an old house on Hargrove Road in 1973. In 1974, the church moved buildings from the University of Alabama to property in Cottondale, AL. There were three pastors served this congregation: Jerry Edgil, Roy Gene Ploughman, and Richard Barryhill.
The Druid City Baptist Church, led by Pastor David S. Lewis Jr., began meeting at Hayes Chapel Funeral Home on April 13, 1975. In October of 1975, they relocated to a storefront building on 15th Street in Tuscaloosa.
In January of 1979, these two congregations merged, and the name Druid City Baptist Church was retained. Then on April of 1982, the congregation voted unanimously to change its name to the Bible Baptist Church.
In February of 1986, the Cottondale property was sold. In March of 1986, the congregation voted to purchase land on Bear Creek Road, and in April of 1986, the church began to meet in a tent at the new location. The church held services for the first time in our new building in June of 1986.
On Sunday, June 10, 2018, Phillip Blackwell was unanimously voted upon to become our pastor, and his ministry began on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.
